Join us - everyone is welcome
We meet regularly to share ideas and information. Next steps include organising initiatives to educate the community about the importance of protecting Kurrawyba and species including the Grey Nurse Shark and Blue Groper. We also want to see shark mesh removed permanently from our beaches. If you share our values and would like to make a contribution, send us an email expressing interests in joining the Friends of Kurrawyba.

Sign our first petition
We are gathering signatures for an e-petition to ask the NSW Legislative Council to institute a permanent ban on shark meshing at the end of the 2023-24 season.
The shark nets will be removed from beaches between Port Stephens and the South Coast on 30 April 2024. We believe their removal should be permanent. If you agree, add your name to our petition and let your friends know.

Come to our events
We will be launching our first campaign, for the permanent removal of shark meshing from our beaches, with an event at Terrigal Beach on Sunday, 28 April. Shark nets are removed on 30 April each year and returned at the beginning of Spring (in September).

Protect the Blue Groper
Recent spear fishing incidents with Blue Gropers in Sydney and Jervis Bay have pushed the NSW Government to take further steps to protect the NSW State Fish, the Blue Groper, with new changes to prohibit fishing for Blue Groper by any method.
DPI Fisheries is undertaking a state-wide advisory campaign to educate fishers about the new rules but, at this stage, they will only apply for a 12-month test period.
We think the rules need to be permanent.
